Synopsis: Lies, secrets and truth untold. How can the future be different?
When Amy escaped the prison cell she’d been trapped in for years she had no idea how hard it would be to live again. Six months after the guy who kept her hostage died she is still looking for a way to break free from the shadow of fear that keeps haunting her.
Guilt hurts, and it’s left Rich lost. He is drinking in a bar with his friends when he sees a girl who prods him out of the listlessness he’s been trapped by since he turned himself around from a bad guy to good man. She’s beautiful, but she’s hesitant and nervous. It’s attractive, though. She’s sweet. But he doesn’t know what her awkwardness and her fleeting smiles hide, and when she asks if he’s a good guy, he isn’t sure what to say. He didn’t used to be.
Fate plays some cruel games…

Excerpt

“I guess I oughta go?”
“You don’t have to go yet.”
“I have to work tomorrow, and your dad isn’t gonna appreciate me overstaying my welcome.”
“He’ll come around.”
“Yeah.” I shrugged, doubtful. “Maybe.”
She smiled. “I’ll get your jacket and your helmet.”
“Thanks.” I didn’t want to go back in there. I’d had my fill of her father.
She came out and handed both to me, then started walking with me down the steps toward the back gate. She opened it and then followed me out and down the drive to my bike. I gave her my helmet and slipped on my jacket, not knowing what to say suddenly. The words hovering in my head were—I love you—but they were bullshit. It was too early to call my feelings that, and ‘I’m in lust with you’ were not the words a girl wanted to hear.
“Bye then,” I acknowledged as she gave me my helmet. “I’ll see you over the weekend,” I said before slipping it on. I sounded like a douche now.
“Sure you’re okay?”
I smiled. I guess she saw it through the gap in my helmet. I had the visor up. “Yeah, just a little numb from your dad’s interrogation. I’ll call you tomorrow when the shock’s worn off.”
She laughed.
Shit. I wanted her a lot—so much.
I slipped my helmet back off. “I like you.”
She smiled. “I like you too.”
I gripped her neck and pulled her mouth to mine, and kissed her hard, no tongues. I’d lay odds her dad was watching.
She pulled away when I let her neck go and took a breath. She looked rattled. She looked as affected by me as I was by her.
I smiled and then slipped my helmet back on. “Call me every night when you’re in bed.”
She nodded.
I climbed on my bike. “And I’ll see you this weekend.”
“Yeah.”
“Amy,” I said before I pulled my visor down. “I really, really, LIKE, you.”
She laughed.
I pulled my visor down, kick-started the bike, revved it, nodded at her, then rode off.
