Reading Between the Lines (RBL): Spooky Reads

Reading Between the Lines

Reading Between the Lines is a weekly discussion type post that brings in other topics except for reviews and blog tours. They can pretty much travel in any direction possible. Join us on Wednesday for this weekly feature!

I've been seeing these posts about taking breaks from reading and such and I thought that this would be a cool weekly feature to have. It was partly inspired by The Book Nympho's Talking Between Reads. I'm actually obsessed with her blog, so send some love her way!

This weeks topic: Spooky Reads

To be completely honest, I love and hate reading scary books. I become terrified and cannot sleep for the night, but I think they are good reads. I only read them during the month of October, though. I think that I forget about them throughout the year, and then once it turns fall all of my thoughts are on Halloween.

I love fall. It's my absolute favorite season. I love everything about it. It's just great because there are so many fun things to do. The apple orchard is open, haunted houses are up, it's acceptable to scare little kids... It's just fantastic, and I am always in the spirit.

With spooky reads, there's no thing as jump scares which are basically what horror movies are these days. They are genuinely scary. I think that is what I find most appealing about these books.

Yeah, they include blood and guts (non-visual sadly) but they make the hairs on the back of your neck stand up. I just love reading about cemetaries and ghosts. And zombies are always great.

I think I need to start reading these books all year.

What do you think about scary reads? Are they something you pick up all year or are they just an October thing?

Some Things I'm Looking Forward To:

  • Halloween obviously
  • My #SpookyGiveaway
  • Fall Break (it's about time)

  1. I have a love/hate relationship with scary books. On the one hand, they keep me on the edge of my seat, and they thoroughly entertain me. BUT, I can never sleep after/while I'm reading one! I literally have to sleep with the lights on. And I totally agree with what you said about jump scares in movies these days. That's what makes a scary book so good. It's genuinely scary. Great post!

    1. I'm a chicken poop as well. I get scared so very easily, but I feel obliged to read Scary Books when it's Halloween.
