January Wrap Up

Books I Read During January 2023

It was a good month for reading: I started and finished a series and finished some books that I had been currently reading for a while! Though I haven't finished it so it won't be in this wrap up post, I started a book that has been on my TBR for a while. Wins all the way around!

Let's dive in to what I read during the month of January:

Emily Wilde's Encyclopaedia of Faeries by Heather Fawcett - 5 stars

The first book I read of 2023 and by far the best book I read this month. Check out my full review to see just how much I enjoyed this one.

How to Excavate a Heart by Jake Maia Arlow

In solidarity with the HarperCollins Union and will not be reviewing at this moment. Will add my review/rating in when a deal has been agreed upon.

Kingdom of the Wicked series by Kerri Maniscalco - 3.5 stars (average of all three books)

I got these books for Christmas and had to give them a whirl. They weren't the worst things I've read, and I actually enjoyed them. This series definitely has it's faults but it was fun. I liked getting to know the characters. It was pretty confusing at times but I just rolled with it. Fair warning, there is a lot of smut in book three. I wouldn't classify book three as young adult, so watch out if you are buying these books for someone. I will be giving the new adult spinoff series a go when it releases later this year.

The Stars Between Us by Cristin Terrill - 2 stars

I took such a long time to read this book. I bought it when it came out last August and started it, but I just finished it. It was rough. I hated the main character, Vika. She was incredibly annoying throughout and didn't get any better. The plot overall didn't make much sense, especially with the rushed ending. Half the time I didn't know what was going on - it was just like, oh, Vika got another dress and is spending more money. I also think the comparisons to Illuminae and Bridgerton ruined it for me. Spoiler alert: this book is nothing like either of those, except there's parties and it takes place in a different world in space. I would skip this one.

Just My Type by Falon Ballard - 4 stars

You can check out my mini review for Just My Type, but I thought this one was a fun romcom. I really enjoyed the characters and their growth throughout the book.

Have you checked out any of these or read anything fun in January? Let me know in the comments!
