Movie Stars and Art Students: How Willa Got Her Groove Back

Review: How Willa Got Her Groove Back by Emily McKay

Title: How Willa Got Her Groove Back
Author: Emily McKay
Publisher: February 22, 2016
Publish Date: Entangled: Crush
Genre: Young Adult Contemporary

Synopsis: Disclaimer: This Entangled Teen Crush book contains an unbelievably hot bad boy, an unbelievably famous actress, and all the drama that comes with adding both to your family. Oh, and a forbidden flirtation with a soon-to-be stepbrother.
When Willa Schofer’s father comes home from a business trip with an über-famous new fiancée, Willa’s senior year blows up in paparazzi-fueled flames. Overnight, she has a new house, a new car, and a new soon-to-be stepbrother—the unbelievably hot, unbelievably arrogant, Finn McCain. Thank god he’s constantly pushing her buttons, or she might do something irresponsible. Like fall for the jerk.
Just when Willa’s decided to avoid him for, oh, ever, Finn lands in the center of her senior project team. Seriously—how hard is it to shake a guy? At least her work on the project snagged the attention of the (second) hottest guy in school. He might only be into her because of her famous stepmom, and he’s not quite as exciting as a certain annoying housemate, but at least she’s allowed to crush on the guy.
Because crushing on your annoying stepbrother? So not cool.
Willa and Finn Book 2 coming November 14, 2016

I received a free copy of this book via the publisher in exchange for an honest review. This will not affect my review in any way.

Cover: The cover isn't very interesting. It's kinda blah, if I'm being completely honest. I wish they would have showed Finn or Damien even. Sorry but with books containing hot guys, I like to see them on the cover. This would have been perfect to add some eye-candy to my shelf, but instead I get the white vans. (TBH I hate that meme.) I do like the little quote on the front though. It makes me interested and even though I just finished it, I want to read it again. All because of that one line grabber.

Characters: So many characters that have such personalities! I have strong opinions on so many, but I'll try to keep it down to a few.

Okay, Willa was dumb. Whenever she miss judged Finn, I just wanted to slap her. She could be so rude! Especially to Mia! Like I get you are not for this marriage and all, but Mia is a person to. Just because she's famous doesn't mean she isn't a human being with feelings. Willa's big, blurty mouth just got on my nerves.

Finn was hot. Just saying. I could never get a clear picture of Finn. I couldn't picture him in my head. It's weird because any other hot guy in books I can picture, just not him. I wish he would get over himself and let people in. Speak your mind, dude! So many problems could've been resolved if he didn't hide his true thoughts and feelings.

I hold sympathy for Mia. Yes, she's famous and has dated a lot of guys but she is still a sentient. I just wish people would've been nicer towards her.

Plot: OMG THE FEELS! My emotions were all over the place while reading How Willa Got Her Groove Back. I couldn't handle it. It was so well-written that I could just picture everything that was happening and these characters and their lives seemed real to me. I rooted for them no matter what!

I always love reading books about famous people. I find them interesting because generally the people that write them aren't famous, so it's cool seeing another person's perspective.

Ending: NO! I cannot wait until November for more! My emotions aren't fully back after that. Okay, I wish certain people would have gotten together, but I guess there's more room for a sequel. I have so many questions left unanswered!

Overall: How Willa Got Her Groove back was a fantastic read! If you want to grow attached to a great new bunch of characters, read this book. You're feelings will not be able to handle it.
