Review: Chasing Forever Down by Nikki Godwin
Title: Chasing Forever Down (Drenaline Surf #1)
Author: Nikki Godwin
Publisher: Self-Published
Publish Date: March 14, 2013
Genre: YA Contemporary
Synopsis: After seventeen-year-old Haley Sullivan meets a mysterious stranger who plays by his own rules, she's more than determined to learn every trick of the trade from the master himself. But her dream-chasing mentor disappears after that night, and according to the local newspapers, he's been dead for years. Knowing he's very much alive, Haley enlists best friend Linzi to join her on a scavenger-hunt-style road trip that ultimately lands them in the surf town of Crescent Cove, California. Mystery guy is no mystery here, though – he's Colby Taylor, the west coast's biggest professional surfer.
If Haley wants to talk to the wave rider again, she'll have to get past his four intimidating bodyguards who are highly skilled in the business of sending starstruck fangirls back to where they belong. Haley is up for the challenge if it means chasing her dreams and escaping the perfectly corporate future that's been planned for her. But dealing with these bodyguards isn't exactly what Haley imagined it'd be. Sure, being thrown off a jet ski sucks, but falling in love with one of them might just be worse.
I received a free copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review. This will not affect my decision in any way.
Cover: The cover is so pretty! The surfboard and the people (well, their feet) just gives it a great beachy feel. The fonts are amazing. I love the cover for Chasing Forever Down!
Characters: I am loving surfer boys after reading this! The group really understands who they want to be as people, and I envy how tight they are together. They are a tight group of friends (except for one in particular) and just great people in general. I really wish A.J. was my bff. He’s such a personality.
I had wrong thoughts about Vin at first and was kind of sad that we never saw his really mean side. I don’t know why Enchanted Emily called him unbearable. He seemed tolerable when he was shown at his worst.
Plot: Alright, Haley was a bit stalker ish at first. She does all of the stuff to find a guy- including going cross country for him. That’s a bit excessive. But it was a great best friend adventure. I love how Linzi just agrees to go with Haley. She’s a good friend.
I loved the beginning and how different it was from anything else. It starts off with an adventure and captured my attention from the first paragraph.
Man, I really want to surf right now. It sounds so cool! I never knew of all the rivalries and how dangerous it is. But the surfer boys were hot!
Ending: I need more. I wish Haley could stay there forever because she completes the group. I just really liked the adventure. It was all about chasing your dreams and forever down. Do what you want when you want. Chasing Forever Down has a great theme and sticks to it throughout.
Overall: I really enjoyed this perfect little beachy novel. It was a great, easy read. It took me a couple of hours to finish, and the only reason I didn’t put it down sooner was because my hands were cramping. Everyone needs to read Chasing Forever Down. The writing was descriptive and that characters were fantastic. I loved it and cannot wait to read the next in the series. Need more surf boys in your life? Chasing Forever Down is perfect for you!
