Synopsis: His name's on everyone's lips--sexy rocker Jack McCabe. His gritty New York City band is red hot, almost as hot as his fiery affair with photography student Lil Marchone, the girl from his past, now the woman he loves. The problem is, Lil's controlling ex wants her back. Rich, powerful, and ruthless, he'll stop at nothing--including murder--to get Jack out of her life. But Jack's a badass himself, always up for a fight. And with the stakes this high, he'll risk everything for Lil, even his band. Even his life.
I received this book for free from Netgallery in exchange for an honest review. This will not affect my decision in any way.
Cover: I like the cover. It reminds me of a lot of romance books which I normally shy away from, but after reading the synopsis I just had to read Ready to Rock. The model for Jack is hot which is always good :) I feel as if the cover really captures what Ready to Rock is all about. You have the motorcycle and the couple. The yellow is a bit weird though.
Characters: Jack was hot. He was the artsy type but also a BA. It was a happy medium. His life seems wild though. Construction worker by day, rockstar by night. It’s an odd mix but it works for him.
Lil was likeable, but she didn’t want to do anything. She didn’t want to break up with Claude even though she was practically cheating on him. That made me a bit mad because I just wanted her and Jack to get together.
Claude was a grade-A douche. I wanted to punch him everytime he popped up. He managed to get on every last one of my nerves. He was a horrible person with an even worse personality. He gives a different view of the Christian Gray types.
Plot: There was a little bit of everything- bad boys, rich boys, danger, fighting, rock stars. It was unlike anything I had ever read before. It gave a different POV of paparazzi, I’ll never look at them in the same way. Stardom does seem super stressful especially to Jack and Lil. I’d be terrified if I were them.
The plot did move a bit too fast for my liking, but maybe that’s just me. They said I-love-yous way to early on. It seemed as if everything was rushed. Lil’s 21, you could wait a few years.
Ending: The ending had me hanging on the edge of my seat. Of course, I was rooting for Jack. Though, it does seem like he needs to learn how to take a chill pill sometimes. I’m happy for them. They managed to make it through everything thrown at them.
Overall: It was okay. Ready to Rock was a nice change and a nice transition into New Adult books. I can’t wait to read more by Connelly. I hope she continues the rock star romances.
