I received this book for free from the author in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.
Cover: The cover is absolutely gorgeous. It’s changed since I first mentioned it on my blog, and I love it way better now. It’s dark and mysterious. I really like it!
Characters: I hated Krista, the main character. She had me wanting to tear my hair out throughout the entire novel. The biggest thing with her was that she blamed everyone else for problems when in reality she was in the wrong. She got mad at others because they didn’t think the same way as her. Hello, there are such things as differences. She just irritated me. And then the whole thing between her and Liet. Yeah, he seemed to be bipolar but I don’t see why he creeped her out. He just seemed like a concerned person whose only relative left in the world likes to do dumb things. I didn’t like Krista if you couldn’t tell.
Liet was pretty cool. As mentioned above, I believe he suffered from bipolar disease because no regular human could switch moods so quickly. His moods were like a light switch; I’m surprised he didn’t get whiplash from his mood swings. Though, he seemed to only be brought up when it seemed convenient. It was like he was thrown into the mix to make Krista’s actions seem a bit more justified.
Plot: The plot was the best part of Life After the Undead. It was why I decided to read this novel. I loved the different turn this zombie novel took. It wasn’t like any of the others. I found it funny in the beginning when Krista and her parents used movies to come up with a game plan. That doesn’t typically happen. Also, I like the use of the word “zompocalypse.” It made me laugh, and I just had to write it down in my notes.
The first part of this book really wasn’t needed. It could’ve just started off when Krista was getting older in Florida. The background at the beginning caused it to drag which was why it took a while for me to read.
The time gaps were a bit confusing. It would jump around a lot, or when it stayed the same for a while I got confused. It was hard to keep track of. Also, there was not a lot of description. It was mostly stated facts. With both of these aspects, I had to reread quite a few parts.
Ending: The ending was suspenseful. I was just like, “What is going to happen?” There are so many people that I thought was going to die, but they didn’t. It was a bit rushed, but I liked the ending. I kind of want to read the next book to read what happens next.

Overall: This was a decent book. At some points it was slow, but the characters had good personalities. You can tell if a book has good characters by loving them or hating them. I think that if you like zombies you should check out Life After the Undead. It was a nice twist on a fantastic subject. Also, it was original which is what I mostly look for in books. I’m actually really glad that I finished this book.
About the Author
Pembroke Sinclair is a literary jack of all trades, playing her hand at multiple genres. She has written an eclectic mix of fiction ranging from horror to sci-fi and even some westerns. Born in Rock Springs, Wyoming--the home of 56 nationalities--it is no wonder Pembroke ended up so creatively diverse. Her fascination with the notions of good and evil, demons and angels, and how the lines blur have inspired her writing. Pembroke lives in Laramie, Wyoming, with her husband, two spirited boys, a black lab named Ryder, and a rescue kitty named Alia, who happens to be the sweetest, most adorable kitty in the world! She cannot say no to dessert, orange soda, or cinnamon. She loves rats and tatts and rock and roll and wants to be an alien queen when she grows up.
Fun Stuff from the Blogger
I love zombies, so I thought it would be fun to share my answers to a few questions about them. These are just silly things that I have discussed before with my friends.
1. Would you survive a zombie attack?
After watching The Walking Dead and reading up on zombie books, I am fairly confident in my skills. I feel as if I know how to survive (find a Costco or Walmart) and I know how to kill zombies, unlike some. The only thing that would worry me would be the physical fighting, but that can be learned over time. As long as I don't die immediately, I'll be fine.
2. What would you do if zombies came to life?
As mentioned in my answer above, I would find the nearest grocery store/mall and live there. I think it would be kind of cool.
3. Do you think the threat of zombies exist?
Obviously. I read an article stating that there is some brain disease that makes people come back to life after they die, but I have no idea where. It is a real threat though. I'd prepare yourselves.

Although the concept seems interesting, I think I'm going to have to pass. I simply don't think I can suffer through a whole book of being annoyed with the main character. Think of my poor hair! ;-)

I know what you mean! I've had book two on my shelf for a while now, but haven't picked it up because I don't think I can handle another book being annoyed with the same character. Who knows? Maybe she grows.

Hmmm... Maybe try it with some calm music on a quiet afternoon when you can just do nothing and sip [insert favorite drink here] all day?
DeleteI might just have to do that lol, but I'll have to go back through my emails and re-download it. IDK though, maybe that's just the universe telling me that it's not meant to be.
DeleteI know what you're saying. Honestly, at this point, I have 1.5x as many books on my TBR as I do read on Goodreads, so I would just skip it, but I understand the struggle.
